The Raven by Kate Robbins – Book Review

Book Review

There are few things I enjoy more in this world than a great book, and lucky for me The Raven by Kate Robbins is a fantastic book!

I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to connect with the author, Kate Robbins, and read her Spirits of the Norse book. This is one of the few historical/fantasy/romance books featuring Vikings that I have read and needed to binge it instantly. I love these books and Kate Robbins’ writing just speaks to me. When you find those authors, you add every book of theirs to your TBR and read every novel you can get your hands on – and that’s what I have been doing!

The Raven is the second book in the Spirits of the Norse series. This historical series follows a male lead and a woman he pines after in a fantastical land of vikings. Magic, war, allegiances, and sexy scenes make up most of these books, and for a romance and fantasy fan like me… it hits just right.

This book follows Magnus, introduced in the first book as a secondary character, as he tries to prove himself. His brother Gunnar always takes the lead, but this time he’s going to show everyone what he’s made of. In walks Elspeth, our female lead, who is mystical and mysterious. It doesn’t take long for these two to grow very fond of each other and start a romance of the ages. Their bond and passion are undeniable, and any R rated romance lover will swoon at the story being told.

Between the wickedly cool cover and the marvellously written story, this book is a historical read that sits high on my must read TBR shelf. Throw in magic and seers, allegiances among countrymen and vikings, strong and sexy male leads, competent and powerful females, norse lore and gods, and one incredible love story – what more can you ask for?

This book won’t leave you disappointed, frustrated or angry at the end, with a happy and fulfilling ending… and hints that this might not be the last book in this series. I truly found this book incredible and I highly recommend you pick it up. Indie books can rock the heck out of your bookshelf, and you might just find a new favourite author in the meantime. Also, Dublin, Ireland! Who doesn’t love imagining these Vikings with a sexy Irish accent?

Overall, this must-read book is high on my recommendations if you love historical romances with a pinch of fantasy.

Five out of five stars.

I received this book for free from the author, Kate Robbins, in exchange of an honest review.
