Miranda Writes by Gail Ward Olmsted – Book Review

The Book Review

Miranda Writes by Gail Ward Olmsted is a fast-paced, fun novel that brings a love of crime and justice into a dramatic world.

Love The Rookie, FBI, Rookie Blue, Chicago PD, and those other fantastic television series you can find on one of your many streaming services? Miranda Writes gives the fun vibe of those shows all mashed up into one. What happens when a disgraced attorney tries to take back her life in her own hands? She starts a blog that becomes super popular and is set to become the next tv superstar with her hit show – Miranda Writes (get it… Miranda rights… Miranda writes… okay, maybe I’m the only one who found that joke ridiculously funny).

Miranda’s life became quite a tragedy when an old case she was working on got her fired. Why? Because her witness disappeared and suddenly her team decided she sabotaged the entire case. To make matters worse, this case comes back to haunt her… and she learns those who were close to her might have destroyed her career many years ago.

That doesn’t hold Miranda back though, because she’s determined to help the single mother who was that disappearing witness. With a violent man out in the world assaulting young women, Miranda is going to set things right.

I loved this book! It felt like Gail wrote it just for me. It was the perfect mix of crime (I love following a true crime story that has a happy ending), drama, and justice. Gail mixing in her beautiful writing style from her contemporary books with the legal/crime drama genre is just chef’s kiss. The book is wickedly smart, fast-paced, and totally binge-able. I could hardly put it down, and the entire time I was holding on tight like a roller coaster going around the wild twists, turns, and suspense.

Other highlights:

  • Miranda’s dad is a retired cop with lots of spunk but is also super caring
  • This book ends and has no cliffhanger, so it’s a nice book to read and see an actual ending.
  • Coverups, betrayal, lies, deceit, second and third, and fourth chances. So. Much. Drama!

I can’t recommend this book enough! If you want an easy read with suspenseful, fast-paced action, then this book is for you. It’s the perfect mix of drama and justice.

Overall, a fantastic read! I hope Gail turns this into a series.

Five out of five stars.
