Quick #BookReview Snowman Paul and Kate’s Olympic Dream by Yossi Lapid

38473243

The last book of this boxset, Snowman Paul and Kate’s Olympic Dream, adds to this epic series of tales! Kate, Paul’s friend, knows how to skate! She’s really good, but wants Paul to teach her how to win! Dan and Paul worked with Kate to practice her jumps, speed and twirls so she could get better and make it to the Olympics! With the encouragement of Paul and Dan, they made Kate realize that she shouldn’t give up on her dreams! The more she practiced and believed in herself, the better she did! And after all was said and done, they helped Dan out too!

#BookReview The Lonely Balloon by Gemma Mallorey

31065692

The Lonely Balloon is a super cute, children’s novel with absolutely fantastic pictures!

This book doesn’t have a rhyming scheme, which was a nice change. The lack of forced rhyme made me appreciate this book more so than I expected too!

The book follows a beautiful, green balloon as it soars up high! The balloon meets birds and flags as he makes his way up to the sky – but he is oh so lonely! He was super happy when he played with children, and lucky him that a child was carrying him around! The balloon begins to make new friends in the child’s bedroom as he slowly deflates.

The theme of this story is a strong, well thought out one – even if you don’t see yourself as “beautiful” or “perfect”, it doesn’t matter! You can still not be at your best and be friends with other people! Those friends will love you despite your flaws.

I did really like the illustration style. It was similar to water colour, but with sharp corners for the buildings. It was simple on the eyes! The simplicity was just beautiful, since it didn’t try to overdo itself with crazy, in-depth pictures yet it was so elegant with it’s style and colours at the same time.

I really enjoyed this short story! I’d highly recommend it for it’s beautiful theme and fantastic artwork. It’s an excellent children’s read, perhaps for bedtime? Either way, it’s a must read picture book from this reviewer!

Five out of five stars!

#BookReview Unhinged by Richard Clark

33292256

Unhinged by Richard Clark is a sweet, short read that I’d highly recommend!

This must read has an incredibly adorable and important theme to share! Pile on the breath-taking pictures and you’ve got yourself a real winner! The book is barely 15 pages, so this would be an excellent bedtime book! Storytime will never be the same if you introduce the excellence and expertise of Richard Clark into your children’s library!

What if there were no walls and doors and everyone could roam free? In the mind of a child, it’s a beautiful tale about not blocking anyone out. If you view the story in the eyes of a child, it is the perfect lesson to be learned! We are all connected and enjoy our freedom! There is so much to see and do outside of the walls we’ve created for ourselves! Physical, mental or psychological!

Five out of five stars! I truly love this breathtaking tale!

#BookReview Snowman Paul Returns to the Winter Olympics by Yossi Lapid

38139504

The third book, Snowman Paul Returns to the Winter Olympics, is yet another wonderful addition to this series. This time, Paul is a referee at the Olympics! But, if we learned anything from last time, maybe Paul shouldn’t be trusted with this job… So, what lesson can Paul teach us this time around? This time, Paul is too busy being a referee and working really hard! This book was a little shorter than the last one (well, it felt shorter), but the story was just as strong! All work and no play makes Paul a bored snowman!

I think this story is a super cute addition! I really liked the art style that continues across the series.

If you had to pick one series to read to your kids, this series has to be it! It has beautiful artwork that is soft yet sweet, and it has important themes all children need to learn. These books can be talking points in a classroom, or simply at bedtime! And why not learn with a super cute Snowman?

Four out of five stars!

#BookReview Snowman Paul at the Winter Olympics by Yossi Lapid

32852101

Time for a quick review of a super short and sweet book!

The second book of the Snowman Paul series, Snowman Paul at the Winter Olympics, opens up with the super smart Paul reading a newspaper! This ambitious snowman wants to win an Olympic medal, and he plans to meet this goal! Paul introduces his little friend to the quality of confidence! If you aren’t confident in yourself, however are you going to succeed? Even if you fail, at least you tried! The rhyming scheme is present in this book yet again, but it felt just right in this book. The art was ridiculously cute, and continues with the same style from the first novel (My Snowman, Paul). It passes my expectations for a simple picture book about a Snowman! I’d highly recommend this book, especially since it shows some of the amazing sports in the Winter Olympics, including ski-jumping, speed-skating, and curling. It’s a fun book for any child’s shelf. If you can, pick up the box set! The main theme behind this book was not cheating and being honest.

#BookReview Pandora’s Lunch Box: Don’t Open! by Richard Clark

Print

Richard Clark has another winner on his hand with Pandora’s new book!

The cover itself was really cool – it gave me “Inside Out” (by Pixar) vibes. It’s unique and not following the typical trend with recent covers (which I love, by the way! Uniqueness for the win!).

Pandora’s sense of curiosity reminds me of myself when I was younger (and reminds me of many kids I know too!). Curiosity is a common trait among kids, which is sometimes lacking from children’s novels and middle grade books. When you mix in the wide range of hysterical characters (that meet every middle grade trope in the book), well, you’ve got one awesome story!

Pandora really wants to know what’s in a sandwich – and she seems like quite the science wiz! I loved that she was her own character with epic quirks. I’m tired of boring characters without personalities. Thank you Richard Clark! I also really loved the reference to Pandora (and the fact that she has a box she shouldn’t open). That reference might go over the heads of most kids, but for adults reading it, it’s absolutely hilarious! And really appreciated! It’s G rated adult humor!

I’d say this book is a sweet fantasy novel (if you are looking for a specific genre), to a small degree. What else would you call an almost magical lunch box?

There’s also some pictures floating about this book, which are really cute and funny! They were awesome, and helped show me some of the characters. The pictures are of the vices within Pandora’s box.

Overall, the story is absolutely silly, but is the perfect middle grade story. It’s not very long, so it’s perfect for a bedtime read or for some zany fun in the middle of the day.

Four out of five stars!

#BookReview I Don’t Want to Eat Bugs by Rachel Branton

29974518

I Don’t Want to Eat Bugs is absolutely adorable!

The art style in this book is more cartoon-y than “artsy”, but it stands out really well! That gives it a unique feature that really stands out, in my opinion. While that may turn some readers away, the details in this book were fantastic! Just on the first page – the stuffed animals were breathtaking and almost real (in a cartoon sense). I really liked the style!

There is NOT a rhyming scheme, which is a really nice change! This story is just a story! It let’s the words flow whatever way the author desired, instead of trying to stick to a rhyming scheme.

I thought the adventure Lisbon (our main character) goes on is really cute. The bird, cat and dog were all cute companions for Lisbon to learn from. The lesson about eating the food that is made for you (and not just random bugs and mice… do kids do that?) was something I haven’t seen for a long time!

The final pages where it has a little activity was also an incredible touch! I always liked having activities in the book as a kid to make the book more fun, so seeing the activity page warms my heart. The activity itself is finding certain items in the storybook, if anyone is curious.

I think this book is adorable! I might have pushed the idea or theme behind the book a little more, but it was still fun and cute!

Four out of five stars!
