Daisy’s fingers trailed across his shoulders as she breezed past him. Her warm vanilla and honey scent swirled in her wake, and he felt like that boy all over again who’d lived in a state of hyperawareness around her. The boy who’d noticed the way her dark hair pooled onto the desk as she’d hunch forward to write, her fingers curled around a pencil. The way the tendons in her neck strained when she’d hit and held a high note. Her burst of laughter in the music room had made him stop whatever he’d been doing just to witness her joy.

He’d hoarded all those images, those sacred moments, to pull out and comfort him as he lay alone in the dark woods, waiting for his home to be safe enough to go back inside.

She would never know it, but she’d been his saving grace.

Taking her seat across from him, she set two little pots on the table. Her vivid blue eyes sparkled in the candlelight.  “Try this.” She held a spoon out to him.

Letting her feed him was just too damn intimate, so he took it from her and fed himself. Creamy dark chocolate filled his senses. “Mousse?” Although it was denser, the chocolate more velvety. Richer. “It’s good.”

“It’s a Pot de Crème.” She scooped another mound for herself. Turning the spoon upside down, she brought it to her mouth, closing her eyes when her tongue touched the chocolate. She moaned, and her tongue swept across her bottom lip.

Desire surged through him, and he couldn’t help wondering if she’d look like that in bed. If she’d go all slack and dreamy-eyed when he sucked a nipple into his mouth.

His blood rose at the image of Daisy naked beneath him, back arching, her hands digging into his hair, holding him to her as if she never wanted him to go away.

She opened her eyes and licked the damn spoon. “I had my mom make it just for you.” The silky fabric of her shirt draped over her breasts, accentuating their round fullness. Desire pulsed through him.

Jesus, would you stop already?

“Let’s try this one.” She slid the edge of her fork into the cake, a cream-covered strawberry sliding out. “It’s my favorite.” The Montana sapphire studs glittered in her ears, and her lush mouth curved into a smile. His dick went hard.

He accepted the fork, but even when the cake and cream hit his tongue he couldn’t taste a thing. Because the only thing in his mind, heart, and body was the primal, urgent need to taste her.

All that teenage longing came roaring back. He wanted her more than ever. And not because she was beautiful and had a body his hands were dying to explore, but because every single cell in his body reacted to her. Wanted her. Yearned for her.

And this was why he’d never come back to Snowberry. He didn’t want to yearn for the things he couldn’t have. Didn’t want to wait for his mother to give him a crumb of her attention. Didn’t want to be around these people who’d only ever looked at him with disgust.

“What do you think? Delicious?” Daisy’s voice yanked him out of the negativity.

And he was damn glad. Because his past didn’t matter anymore. He was a man now. He’d made his way in the world. And he had a chance to be that man around Daisy. His gaze on her mouth, he said, “Hell, yes.”

Excerpts:

I checked on the two men who were drinking coffee and topped them off before grabbing the silverware basket and a stack of paper napkins. Then I settled into a back booth and began rolling the silverware in the napkins and piling them on the table. That was when the bell above the front door jingled, and I looked up from my task to see none other than Judd Jackson standing in the doorway.

My heart started beating overtime, and my hands lost their rhythm, making a compete mess of the silverware in front of me.

Judd was scanning the diner. His eyes hadn’t made it to my corner yet, so I just sat there and stared at him. He was still wearing the clothes he wore to school: a black T-shirt that stretched taut over his chest and biceps, under a faded leather jacket, faded jeans, and a pair of black Nikes. He was tall, six-foot something, and his shoulder-length golden hair was pulled back into a ponytail.

I loved his hair. It wasn’t exactly straight, and it wasn’t exactly curly. I guessed it was kind of wavy, and it looked amazing when he had it up in one of those man buns.

When he started to grow it out last summer, I thought the school had changed the dress code just so he could have that hairstyle. Now it was something Asher and his friends mocked. I was glad he kept it, despite what those jerks said to him about it.

Finally, those blue eyes landed on me, and when he smiled, I forgot to breathe for a second before answering him with a smile of my own. The boy was just too gorgeous for his own good.

As he approached the table, I sat up straighter, anticipation tingling along my skin and making my fingers feel almost numb. Why was he here? Did he come looking for me? I wasn’t sure he even knew I worked here.

“Hey, stranger.”

“Hey, Judd.”

There was a beat of silence as we just looked at one another, Judd with his hands jammed in his pockets, and me still sitting in the booth, the bundled mess of napkins and silverware in front of me.

“What brings you to Sally’s?” I finally asked.

The middle school girl in me was chanting, “please say me, please say me,” while my practical side wanted to slap her across the face and tell her to get ahold of herself.

“Thought I’d come by and talk to Sally,” he said with a shrug. His smile slipped a little, and his brows scrunched together, making a dent form between them.

I could feel myself deflate a bit, but my curiosity was curtailing the disappointment I felt.

What did he need to talk to Sally about? Everyone, of course, knew who Sally was. Her personality was as big as her hair, and she had been running this diner since Kennedy was in the White House.

“Here, let me walk you back to the kitchen. I’m sure she’s almost finished with the chili for the dinner crowd.”

I slid out of the booth and led him around the corner and back toward the kitchen. I could feel his eyes on my back, and it almost made me stumble a few times.

I opened the swinging door and called out, “Hey, Sally! Got a visitor,” as I guided him through the doors and into the kitchen.

BOOK BLURB:

My savior isn’t prince charming.

I’m not that lucky.

He’s my worst nightmare.

He’s my one night stand from two years ago.

And he doesn’t remember me.

What happens on vacation doesn’t always stay on vacation. Especially in a place like Aspen. I moved to the mountains for my dream vet job. I never expected to run into the man of my dreams. Again.

I never thought I’d see her again.

My Cinderella didn’t leave me a shoe to find her.

Not that I’d need random footwear to recognize her.

Her kiss is something I’ll never forget.

Work hard. Play hard. I’m paid to be a nice guy on the slopes, but what I do in my off time isn’t always about making good choices. That’s the fun of living in a ski town. I stay while the women come and go.

Crazy Over You is a standalone romantic comedy and the second book in the Love with Altitude series.

EXCERPT:

“Hey,” another man shouts from above me. “Are you okay? You, in the red hat. Hello?”

His deep, resonant voice and confident delivery remind me of a movie trailer narrator.

Twisting to see behind me, I lean too far to the left, shifting my body weight, and slide downhill sideways. In an attempt to right myself, I lift my left ski pole and stab it into the snow.

Brilliant.

Now I’m lying with my head downhill and my legs spread eagle, skis akimbo. A pole rests a few feet away. Sitting up to reclaim it requires stronger ab muscles than I possess. I should’ve listened about strengthening my core.

I can’t even think “core” without cringing. I blame my grandmother’s romance novels I snuck as a kid. Her core trembled as Sir Reginald stroked her slick folds. Shudder. A girl can learn many things about the ways of love and throbbing manhoods by sneaky reading romances.

With the sun in my eyes, I can’t clearly make out the face of the speaker, but I recognize his red and black uniform. White crosses decorate the chest and sleeve.

He’s ski patrol.

Thank you, God.

“Are you injured?” he calls down to me.

“Only my pride,” I mumble into my jacket.

“Anything broken?” He continues as if I haven’t spoken.

“No, I’m fine,” I raise my voice so he can hear me.

“You don’t look fine. Think you can right yourself and uphill? Climb back to me?” I can’t see his eyes behind his reflective goggles, but I can hear the smile in his voice. I can’t tell if it’s friendly or condescending.

“I think I’m kind of wedged in here.” I use my remaining ski pole to gesture at my skis jutting out of the snow at right angles.

“I can see that. Can you pop yourself out of your bindings? Use the big long stick in your hand.”

“You use your big stick,” I mumble as I jab at my bindings. If shooting fish in a barrel is easy, spearing them must be the opposite.

I fail.

“Never as easy as it looks.” He executes a small hop and glides down the mountain like a commercial for men’s deodorant. Or beer. Something manly and smooth. Razors.

He’s like a damn razor commercial with his smooth moves.

EXCERPT

Her smile was magnetic, and I just wanted to kiss her. I mean…I’d wanted to kiss her all night. But sitting there, in front of the last lit house, with Christmas music playing in the background and her smile radiating joy, there was nowhere else I’d rather be. That thought hit me so suddenly and I didn’t even know why.

I put my truck into park, leaned over to her side of the car, and pushed my hand up into her dark hair. She froze, silhouetted by the light display behind her. Her eyes locked with mine, green meeting brown, and her eyes widened with surprise. She breathed out softly, and I could feel her pulse ratchet up at my touch.

This was the girl who had pulled me across the room at Sutton’s wedding, like a magnet finding its pair. This was the tension that I’d felt when we first spoke. Here was the world of desire and lust that had clouded both of our minds ever since our first kiss.

My face was only inches from hers. I wanted to take what was mine. I wanted to claim her mouth and then her body right here in the cab of my truck, like we were young, wild, and carefree.

But, instead, I couldn’t seem to stop staring at her.

She laughed lightly to try to defuse the tension. But it wasn’t possible, and it was a feeble effort.

“Are you going to kiss me?” she whispered boldly.

I didn’t need any further prodding. I crushed my lips against hers. It was like striking a match. Our lips moved against each other, desperate with the need to get closer, to have more. She opened her mouth for me, and I brushed my tongue against hers. The groan that emanated from deep in the back of her throat made my dick twitch. Our tongues volleyed for position. She was just as aching for attention as I was.

I heard the click of her belt buckle, and soon, she was pushing her body closer, moving over the divide of my truck. My hands fell to her ass, and I effortlessly hoisted her up and into my seat. She squeaked in shock but didn’t break contact. Instead, she straddled me and let her hands wander across my chest.

My hands never left her ass because, damn, did that woman have an ass. She was grinding up against me, and I moved into a full-blown hard-on at her ministrations. She must have realized what she was doing to me because, when she swiveled her hips in place, she moaned against the feel of my dick.

In that moment, I didn’t give a shit that we were acting like teenagers, parked outside of a stranger’s house, bucking against each other for just an ounce of satisfaction. I was ready to strip her bare and fuck her until she forgot every word to every Christmas song and only remembered my name.

That was, until she rocked back just a little too hard, and a loud honk erupted from the hood of the truck.

I become acutely aware of Christopher’s fingers trailing up and down my back.

“Thank you for including me in your celebration,” he says.

“Lucas wanted you here.”

Leaning into me, he whispers in my ear, “And you didn’t?”

His proximity is intoxicating, and it prompts a confession out of me. “I wanted to see you so badly, I ached.”

Christopher’s fingers dig slightly into my back, and not really knowing what else to say, I pop a Turkish delight in my mouth. Oh my word, it’s delicious.

“You have powdered sugar on your mouth,” Christopher informs me.

Frantically I wipe away at it, but he chuckles. “You just smeared it everywhere.”

He slips his hand under my chin, turning my head in his direction. Following suit, I shift in my spot until my upper body faces him too. Christopher dusts his fingers over my mouth, rubbing with his thumb on the left corner. Then he drags it down to the center of my lower lip and desire spears me instantly. A low moan tumbles out of me, and we both suck in our breath, the space between us suddenly feeling too small. He peers behind me, and it takes me a second to realize he must be checking whether there are guests in the booth opposite us. There aren’t. I already checked earlier.

Christopher closes the distance between us, sealing his lips over mine. His kiss is like a breath of fresh air on a warm spring morning. Crisp and invigorating, taking over all of my senses. I succumb to it all, entwining my tongue with his, probing and tasting. He explores me like a man determined to uncover my deepest secrets. His hand cups the back of my neck, his fingers digging into my hair. The gesture sends a jolt right through my center, all my nerve endings zipping to life.

His mouth is a thing of wonder. I could drown in him like this for hours.

When we pull apart for air, we rest our foreheads against one another’s, the tension between us so thick I could bite into it. Christopher’s hand is still at the back of my neck, and he tilts my head slightly to one side, trailing his mouth down my cheek until he reaches my ear.

“I’ve been fantasizing about this for weeks,” he whispers in a low, delicious voice. “I’m so hard right now, I can barely see straight. But I can imagine all the ways I could love you right here on this table.”

Rash Decisions by Alex Rosa

Excerpt 4

“Are you okay?” he asks.

I shake my head, scrunching my eyes and rubbing my temples. Which are all things that mean I am not okay, so I try and stop and open my eyes, except I should have kept them shut because Troy’s eyes are glowing, round, and adorable, caring even.

Another dry gulp.

“Of course I’m okay.”

He nods, but it’s another moment where I can tell he doesn’t believe me. He shifts his inquisitive stare down to my desk and extends his arm out, his long fingers sliding the layout design from under my pile of budgets.

Without looking up he asks, “Is this the revised version we discussed?”

“Yup,” I breathe out.

“Thanks for moving the hallway entryway. I know you wanted to accommodate the corner booths, but in a way, I like that the design has flipped where they’re on the other side. What if we moved the raised VIP level over here, too?”

I love watching Troy work. Somehow we have managed a flawless working routine after our midnight pow-wow. He’s calculated and methodical. His piercing eyes, for once, are not on me, but on my graph paper, measuring for errors and design.

“Where?” I ask as I stand and move around my desk to stand next him.

“Here,” he points.

I lean over the design, and shake my head. “We can’t. If you want the media area to be more prime and centrally located it needs to be there. Plus, I have a plan for a lounge area right in front. The only thing I can suggest is to switch the place of the bar with the VIP section, but then we have to battle for plumbing and all that. It’s an old building from the 1920’s. We have to at least attempt to be gentle with it.”

He snickers. I look up from the paper and his eyes are already on me. He’s much closer than I realized. I hold my breath.

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing. The way you talk about the integrity of the building, it’s just …”

I put a hand on my hip, raising a brow. “It’s just what?”

He stands up straighter, no longer concerned with the piece of paper. He towers over me. I have the sudden urge to tug on his tie and I don’t even have an ounce of liquor in me.

The corner of his mouth lifts. “It’s … cute.”

My lips squirm, trying to find a way to wrap around words, but they fail because the temperature in the room has just skyrocketed, and I’m more embarrassed by the burning blush on my cheeks.

He licks over his bottom lip, his eyes darting all over my face again, and that damn smirk seems like he’s privy to his own joke, but I catch his eyes falling on my mouth every time.

I release the breath I was holding and he has the nerve to chuckle.

“I’m not cute.”

“There are many versions of Julia that I’m getting to know, and, unfortunately, downright adorable is one,” he pauses chewing the inside of his cheek, as if treading cautiously but decides to go for it as he adds, “sexy as hell is another, and sometimes you’re just surprisingly agreeable and almost friendly.”

There’s no stopping my grin, and I want to hate myself for it, but it feels too good as it stretches across my face.

His eyes fall back onto my mouth, and without hesitating he says, “I’m trying really hard to be a gentleman, you know that?”

“This is your version of a gentleman?”

He sucks in a breath, “I said I was trying. I’m showing some serious restraint here. I deserve a medal or something.”

When I giggle, his eyes fling themselves back to my eyes.

“What do you mean?” I ask, knowing this is me walking straight into quicksand.

“You know what I mean, Jules.” He leans in a little bit closer.

Two days of normality and this is how long we’ve lasted.

As if impatient and battling himself he speaks; his eyes etching themselves with a look of pain. “Do you have any idea how much I want to kiss you?”

With my heartbeat sounding off like a rapid bass drum in my ears I reply, “I think I have some idea.”
