#BookReview Return to You by Samantha Chase

23167025

This romance novel is a fun page turner that I couldn’t put down! Return to You follows James Mongomery and Selena Ainsley as they slowly reconnect with each other. The two have a dramatic past that is slowly revealed throughout the novel, instead of most novels where it is all delivered up front. This wonderful idea by Samantha Chase gives the novel a little extra boost in making the novel more interesting. As a reader, it made me want to continue reading and discovering what happened to James and Selena in their past as it is explained and revealed chapter by chapter.

The novel focuses on the present day and how James and Selena learn about how their view of events is very different from each other. Their relationship and circumstances seem very realistic, and well thought out. I didn’t see any of the characters being over exaggerated or boring. The characters are an amazing aspect of the novel!

The plot line is also intriguing, but could have used a bit more action or drama. I found the plot line to be very predictable and obvious as the novel went on, and even made some of the chapters slow and boring. Once I was past those chapters, I became instantly interested in it again.

Overall, I felt like a little more action and drama could have been added, but it was a good quality book. The novel moved smoothly and kept me interested!

Four out of five stars!

#BookReview Something Like Love by Sara Richardson

It’s quick book review time again!!

24820182

Something Like Love was an excellent romance/drama novel!

I loved this book! Lately I have been craving a good romance novel, and this filled the void! Sara Richardson did an excellent job writing this book!

I very rarely found it boring. I can’t remember a time reading it where I felt the need to put it down. While it didn’t have me hooked at every single word, I craved to continue the story and know what was going to happen to Paige and Ben.

The novel moves smoothly and doesn’t have any chapters that seem out of place. All of the situations seem realistic and not like a cheesy soap opera. It was a good quality romance novel!

Overall, I loved it! I want to read the first novel in this series and continue on with the rest of the books.

Five out of five stars!

#BookReview Love Revisited by Jannat Bhat

35274199

Love REVISITED is a beautifully written, new adult novel by Jannat Bhat.

This is Jannat’s FIRST book. That had me extremely excited, because that is such an accomplishment!

Now time for a brief summary:

Rose is a recent college graduate when suddenly her life gets uprooted with a move to Washington. She has to leave her life and friends behind and start a new journey! In this new city, there’s a bit of a thrill and mystery in the air. Rose begins having nightmares about Ruby, a name she used to demand she be called as a child. On top of that, Christopher and Alex seem so familiar… The thrills, chills, fantasy, mystery and romance in this novel will twirl you around and keep you hanging on the edge.

Some of the plot line was predictable, or just happens at the perfect timing. Like a psychiatrist, out of nowhere, asking if Rose loves a man in her dreams. There was no talk between them about this type of relationship between those characters, but it just pops up at the perfect time to keep the plot moving. I also found the story lacked some realism at times (I know it’s fictional, but it felt like it was supposed to be in a realistic universe) such as a psychiatrist looking with troubled eyes at a patient or believing in reincarnation (and suggesting it during an appointment). Additionally, a rushed romance where suddenly they are boyfriend and girlfriend, but it didn’t seem to be said to anyone until it randomly happens. As an adult reader, I notice that a lot more. I don’t think the Young Adult audience would have any issue believing those comments.

That being said, the drama was turned all the way up to high. For me, I don’t like too much drama (unless it’s a soap opera), so for me it felt cheesey. If you LOVE excessive drama – this book is perfect for you! The twists and turns felt like the soap operas I tend to watch (it’s a guilty pleasure of mine) and can easily be enjoyed! It felt so dramatic, like Romeo and Juliet in a present day scenario (with a few minor changes, of course). I really do praise Jannat for the constant drama that moves the plot at a nice pace. Some authors can’t find the balance, but Jannat had me hooked at every turn!

The book was labelled new adult, but I think young adult readers could easily pick it up as well. The age group of the characters are college graduates, but high school readers could also read this book and enjoy it. A lot of the quick romance and drama felt like the Young Adult novels I picked up back in high school. So, in my opinion, this book could work well for either Young Adult or New Adult audiences. I would even consider market it to a Young Adult audience, because it felt so right for both audiences!

Also, when considering a genre shelf to put this on – it could be in either a romance or thriller section. It had a nice mix of both to keep the story interesting, but was only labelled as New Adult when I read it. While it was a fictional novel, it had lots of romance scenes and thrilling twists inside it’s pages. There’s also a pinch of fantasy in this novel, but not enough to give it that label.

The writing style and my reading style did not match well, so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could. That doesn’t mean it’s not a great book though! I also found the grammatical style to be different than one I am used to, so it took me a while to let myself escape into the book and let myself enjoy it instead of trying to pick it to pieces (I’m a perfectionist, I really can’t help it).

There is switching point of views in this novel. It happens later on in the book, but it’s still there! We follow Rose and Alex throughout their journey, with Rose having more chapters than Alex.

Overall, this book was a fun, dramatic read that will definitely resonate with readers who love thrillers, a splash of fantasy, and Romeo and Juliet-esque romance.

Three out of five stars!

I received a free copy of this book from the author Jannat Bhat in exchange for an honest review.

About Love Revisited:

Rose Scarlet is your everyday girl just finishing college with her best friends Will & Aimee. But when she suddenly moves all the way across the country to a small town called Beacon Hill, normal was a thing of the past, for the city felt eerily familiar to her. How could she end up at the local park without directions when this was the first time she had step foot into town? How will she explain her irrational fears or feelings so strong for someone who is practically a stranger or is he?What was the story behind the burnt house? She felt like her heart wanted to cry every time she was near it.
And who was Alexander Sinclair? She could see that he was disturbingly beautiful, but how did she know things he had revealed to no one? Why had she seen his face in her dreams before ever laying eyes on him? A thousand more questions haunted her as she found the answers to none. Not until charming and handsome Nathan Sinclair walks into her life, whom she hated on sight.
Sometimes when something we love is so brutally taken away from us, our soul remembers what our mind is too afraid to.

#BookReview Hidden Fires by Sandra Brown

368034

This book took WAY to long to read for me, if I’m being brutally honest.

Normally I am SO OBSESSED with a romance novel that can get me away from the world and take me to my dreamy state of mind, but this book didn’t do it for me. It was a little disappointing, but I still think this is an excellent book by Sandra Brown. It didn’t help I was cramming for exams and was worrying my days away about how my marks would look, so my lack of relaxation wasn’t totally Sandra Brown’s fault!

This book is centered in 1800s Texas, and we’ve got a preacher’s daughter and a rebellious man. Isn’t this just the stereotypical norm for a really great, mind numbing romance? To some people, that’s the worst norm in the world, but sometimes that norm just gets me! I loved that this book took me back to the past and away from my problems. Sandra Brown’s speaking tone in this novel gets you in and gets you hooked!

This is apparently one of her older books (I hate to admit it was made before I was born… 1994…wow), so I’m very tempted to pick up a more recent one. Most likely, her talent has increased the more she has written. It does stand the test of time (if you ask me), but it’s historical fiction so that helps it out a lot.

Was this book mind blowing? No. It didn’t knock me off my feet like some romance novels do, but I like that it was simple, sweet and to the point. It’s a good book to just sink away from the world in, if that’s what you are looking for.

It fits close to the “good girl, bad boy” stereotype, but with a little more “cheese” factor in it. It will tear at your heart strings a bit as well!

Overall, this book was a nice, melodramatic, romance novel. I definitely want to pick up more by Sandra Brown (and luckily I have another hiding on my shelf…) in the near future.

Three out of five stars!

#BookReview Mastering Her Senses by Laura Kaye

32454867

Mastering Her Senses by Laura Kaye is one mega hot novel that will leave you breathless.

I picked this book up as apart of the anthology A Love Thing – I was told by the amazing author Tamsen Parker that the anthology book (full of tons of sexy ebooks) was free on Amazon, so I picked it up. I had already read Tamsen’s books and loved it, so I figured her book Personal Geography had to be alongside some books similar that I might enjoy. Luckily, I was right!

I really enjoyed this novel! It was fast paced, super sexy and kept me interested and hooked to every word! I love a sexy, erotic novel but I tend to get bored easily (which is one of my biggest flaws as a reader). Laura Kaye mixes the perfect amount of drama, sexy scenes and excitement in this book.

We are introduced to Cassia, who is a submissive, and Quinton (Q) who is a dominant. Now, that’s all fine and dandy and your typical BDSM trope, but Laura has more instore for us – Q likes sensory deprivation. Yup, that’s right. I have honestly never read a book in regards to that subject before, so this was a new adventure for me (and it was a crazy, sexy adventure that was so totally worth it!). The premise was interesting, and it makes this book stand out among other erotica novels.

Side note: This book is the second in the series, but I have not read the first one as of writing this review. The book was easily understood without having to read the first novel.

I also found the book to just be long enough. It ended where you’d like it to in terms of the story telling – there wasn’t any more information I wanted out of the book, and I didn’t feel like it had been cut short. The book is also super sweet and leaves at an ending that made me feel all happy and ooey gooey inside.

Overall, this book is epic! I love Laura Kaye’s writing in this book and I 100% want to read more ASAP! It’s a must read from me!!

I definitely want to read more by Laura Kaye! I might have found a new favourite author out of this anthology (and I’m only on the first book, so I’m sure I’ll find some more authors to read after I finished!).

PS Thanks to Tamsen Parker for suggesting I pick up this anthology!!

Five out of five stars.

#BookReview Misadventures of a Virgin by Meredith Wild

36320338

I love Meredith Wild’s Hacker series, so I figured I would also love this book… yet I didn’t.

This book is your typical post-YA novel. Teenagers who were once together find some feelings for each other years later… Typical trope! If you’re looking for an exciting, over the top plot in regards to this typical trope, you won’t find it here. It was very typical, but it was very sexy. Meredith Wild is great at writing sex scenes. She’s especially good with writing a story for a dominant male and a submissive female.

The book is hot, so if you want some crazy, hot sexy time scenes then you’ve got it! Meredith Wild is over the top with her descriptions, and it makes so some really great scenes. She’s got a five out of five that aspect of the book. Unfortunately, the typical plot and slow build left me feeling a little short. It just felt to typical for me, and I’m almost disappointed in myself for not enjoying it! I love Meredith’s writing, but it just didn’t sit well (for me, personally).

My favourite part of this whole novel was Meredith’s choice in wording. The metaphors she uses to describe pain and desire are fantastic! She’s definitely talented!

You’d enjoy this book if you enjoy erotica, second chance romances, a splash of BDSM or romance.

Overall, it was definitely a hot read! But personally, it fell flat and felt very average in the land of Meredith Wild romances. Although, I would be interested in reading the rest of the series if they come across my path.

Three out of five stars.

#BookReview Alejandro’s Sexy Secret by Amy Ruttan

30900046

Alejandro’s Sexy Secret is the perfect dose of romance and medical drama.

I’ve been craving a sweet romance with a happy ending in a long while, and this book fit the bill. It’s not depressing – it’s upbeat, lighthearted and sugary sweet!! It was just what I needed with all the depressing news that has been going on in the world recently.

Amy Ruttan’s novel is a Harlequin romance, but that shouldn’t scare you off. While quite of few of the Harlequin novels have bored me to tears, this medical romance was fast paced and full of ooey, gooey excellence!! The romance doesn’t start off at the beginning and seem unrealistic, which was a nice change in my Harlequin reads. I liked that it took about half the book for the love interests to finally start their relationship – it seemed more realistic in a romance book setting.

Our lead characters are also unique and diverse. They are doctor with different backgrounds and provide a nice splash of diversity into the usual all white character cast list that seems to pop up in some of these books. I am SOOOO SOOO SOOOO happy to see diversity in this book!!! So happy!

This is such a beautiful story! There’s grief, hope, loss, love and so many themes and plot driven dramas within it that I couldn’t put this book down. This book deserves so much more circulation! I hope Amy writes more and more of these books get read!! What a great novel!!! I literally read it in one sitting, that’s how attached I was to these characters.

I 100% want to read every other book in this series and by Amy Ruttan. I’ll have to try to get my hands on these books because this book had me hooked and addicted to Amy! This is one worthy Harlequin Medical Romance read!!!

Side note: I LOVE that this book is signed by Amy!! That made my day! Along with the cute doctor bookmark as well!!

Five out of five stars.
